Leeds City Museum Mono
This is one of the three major buildings architect Cuthbert Broderick designed in Leeds city centre, along with the Town Hall and Corn Exchange. Built in 1862, this was originally the Leeds Institute Building which provided education for the city’s industrial workers, and until its transformation in 2005, it also was used as the Civic Theatre for amateur theatrical performances. Entrance is free and it is well worth going in to see the massive map of the Leeds City area on the floor of the main auditorium, along with the definitive history of the city. This image is taken from the side of the Electric Press building, the main colour that is present in this shot is yellow. All other colours have been removed except Magenta, which you can see on the O2 at the top left of the building. All of our high-resolution gallery images are available to purchase as canvas prints, acrylic prints, or solid art boxes. Please refer to the product descriptions below for more information. Leeds Town Hall
Leeds Town Hall is Cuthbert Broderick’s masterpiece. Completed in 1858, arguably the finest building in the north east of England and a photographer’s dream. It looks majestic from any angle, but viewed from outside Mr Foley’s pub at sunset, you get this view dramatic of the structure. All of our high-resolution gallery images are available to purchase as canvas prints, acrylic prints, or solid art boxes. Please refer to the product descriptions below for more information. Valentine’s Fun Fair – Bungee
Each February a huge fair assembles on the car parks at Elland Road football stadium, and there is usually a couple of extra rides placed on the Headrow outside the library and art gallery. The machine we have here is an “inverted bungee”. The crane-like arms extend extremely high, stretching the elastic chords that are attached to the buggy. When the buggy is released, it fires the riders into the sky, usually accompanied by a huge scream! This was taken mid afternoon, you can see the light is already low because most of the street is in shadow yet the tops of the buildings are a lovely warm colour against the cold, blue winters sky. Leeds City Markets Entrance
The City Markets on Kirkgate are the largest covered markets in Europe, extending back from the splendid 1900 façade we see in this photograph. This is one of the 3 main entrances that have the curved “Leeds City Markets” signs above them. Here we see one of the lit domes towering over Kirkgate. This dusk image mixes both the cool, blue evening ambient light with the warmer “uplights” which illuminate the building at night. This time of day often produces a wonderful mix of colour in a cityscape. All of our high-resolution gallery images are available to purchase as canvas prints, acrylic prints, or solid art boxes. 1 City Square
1 city square is probably the most recognisable office building in the city centre, with its large glass front, exposed lifts and pagoda-like roof, reminiscent of Lord’s Cricket Ground. This was taken with the camera at pavement level with an “ultra wide” lens to enhance the feeling of height in the shot. We can see one of the many the bird sculptures half way up on the right side, the pagoda roof brightly lit at the top of the image and many floors of offices behind the glass façade. City Square
City Square is the first impression many people get of Leeds when leaving the train station. With impressive buildings such as the Old Post Office, One Park Row and the Queen’s Hotel, it’s certainly an impressive one. In the centre of the square is an impressive statue of the Black Prince on horseback, around the square are statues and cherubs, and in the middle, an semicircle of fountains coming out of the floor. This photograph was taken in November 2008, the Christmas tree was in place, but the lights not turned on. In the foreground we see a blurred man carrying his shopping and a young girl taking a photo of the fountains. The large building to the rear is “One City Square” . The Royal Armouries
Forming one side of the Clarence Dock development, the huge Royal Armouries museum houses 70,000 examples of arms, from weapons from the Tudor times to modern day MOD weapons. There is also a large collection of oriental weapons including a life sized elephant statue wearing full armour. This 2008 view of the building is taken from the Knightway Bridge, a long foot bridge that straddles the river Aire and canal as they leave the city centre; you can see the first lock on the canal in the mid-ground of this photograph. The long exposure time creates a smooth, painterly reflection in the water All of our high-resolution gallery images are available to purchase as canvas prints, acrylic prints, or solid art boxes. The Victoria Quarter
This is the King Edward Street, on the south edge of the splendid Victoria Quarter. The amazing ornate brickwork and long arcades are the signature of this jewel in Leeds’ shopping crown. In here you will find Harvey Nichols, Vivienne Westwood and many other designer clothes shops. This image shows off the grand gables along the tops of the walls, which were caught in the bright autumn sunshine in 2008. The stationary man in the middle makes a huge difference to the scene; a still figure in the mist of a moving mass.
