Canvas Prints Customer Showcase.

Delivery Times

Canvas Prints Online have set our delivery times at 3-4 working days. This is because we have had requests to meet tighter deadlines from some of our customers and we have responded.

Canvas Prints Online cannot offer next day delivery like some other companies do because of the time and effort that is required to make a good canvas print like the ones we produce.

A good canvas print needs a lot of care and should not be rushed as you have paid a lot of money for it.

In our opinion canvas prints cannot be made to an acceptable quality with in 24 hours with 1pm in the afternoon cutoff deadlines like some canvas printing companies offer.

Canvas Prints Online believe that we will not be matched on Price or Quality.

Piece Of The Week

Since launching our Feautured Artists Gallery, we have viewed numerous ranges of beautiful artwork. Canvas Prints Online has chosen Rishi’s ‘ Karmic Loops ‘ as our piece of the week. Rishi creates abstract paintings with seemingly random brushmarks through which organised patterns emerge. His work is influenced by scientific and philosphical ideas such as chaos theory, emergence, quantum physics, eastern spiritual teachings. Rishi will be contributing more canvas art in the coming months and we all look forward to seeing his next piece of influential wall art.

Different Wrap options for your Canvas Print

Our designers at Canvas Prints Online are highly experienced in getting the best out of images for your canvas prints.

We currently offer 2 types of wrap: With Bleed and Without Bleed.

‘Without Bleed’

If you select this option we print your photos on the front surface of the canvas whilst the edges remain white or with a colour of your choice. This can added to suit your image or the space in which your canvas it is to be hung.

This finish is ideal if there is important detail towards the edges of your photos which would be lost around the sides of the canvas if you choose a bleed edge.

‘With Bleed’

If you select this option for your canvas print our designers will use their discretion and either use part of the image to wrapped around the sides of the canvas or use a clone technique for the border’s of your canvas.

Your image will be wrapped around the side of the canvas when there is enough space around the subject so that important detail isn’t lost around the edge of when printing your photos on canvas.

For this option you will need to make sure that you allow for the depth of the stretcher bars 44mm on all sides of your photo before printing.

If there is not enough non - critical elements of your image to use for the sides of the frames we will use a clone method, which is an excellent way to create a gallery wrap effect without losing the composition of your image.

We copy detail from the sides of your photos and flip it over to add enough extra to allow for the depth of the stretcher bars (either 30mm or 40mm depending on which you choose).

Which ever option you choose you can be sure that the canvas prints online design team will know exactly what is the best way to treat your image to get the best out of your photo on canvas print.

Photos on Canvas as Gift’s

We have already stated that printing your photo on canvas, can make the perfect Chirstmas Gift, but photos on canvas make a great option for a neutral gift on any occassion.

Photos on canvas can easily reflect the level of relationship you have with someone or can mark any occasion in style. Consider photos on canvas for:

*Birthday presents -  The neutral nature of a photo on canvas print means that you can choose the photo to exactly match the level of relationship that you have with the person receiving your gift, from an intimate and special moment with your girlfriend to a night out with friends, a photo on canvas print can provide lasting memories.

* New baby gifts – one of the busiest times for our cameras is when a new baby is born. Taking a great new baby picture and transferring it onto canvas is the perfect way to celebrate a new life and makes a lasting memory of a special time.  This sort of gift could also work well for relatives or friends who live too far away to see the newborn at first hand.

* Wedding gifts – whether the bride and groom are setting up a new home or have been living together for years, it can be difficult to think of a really personal present. Photo printing on canvas is the perfect answer. Find a photo that represents their commitment, or shows them in previous years and have it reproduced on high quality canvas.

* Retirement gifts – surprise a long-standing member of staff by presenting them with a canvas print. By talking to their spouse or relatives, you can get hold of a great photo and use photo printing on canvas to create a retirement gift that’s out of the ordinary.

* Housewarming gifts – most people have everything they need when they move home and it can be difficult to know what to give as a housewarming gift. Photo printing on canvas allows you to give something special – a landscape reminder of the area they’ve left behind or a happy family shot from a holiday – anything can be printed onto the canvas and it can be proudly displayed in the new home.

Great Locations for Misty Canvas Prints

Canvas prints can make sensational pieces of wall decoration when the composition includes mist. Seasonal mist and fog can quickly transform a familiar landscape. One of the great myths about landscape photography is that you can take all the time in the world because the landscape is stationary and isn’t going anywhere. If only this was true! Landscapes are only as dramatic as the accompanying weather and the subsequent light this brings, and both can change in an instant.

Here are some great locations for mist and fog:

The Lake District, Cumbria

This tourist hot spot is a mecca for mist hunters. Fog lingers longer on west facing slopes and in sheltered bays on the larger, cooler lakes. Try the Derwentwater jetties, Blea Tarn, Bassenthwaite and Buttermere. Click here to view our Lake District Gallery.

The Lake District

The Lake District

The Broads, Norfolk

Pick a photogenic windpump and frame it with reeds… there’s plenty of potential for ethereal mist pictures here. Head for Turf Fen, Horsey Mere or Thorney Dyke - You’re certain get some shots to make stunning canvas prints.

Snowdonia, North Wales

This mountainous National Park contains several bodies of water perfect misty morning views when spied from above. Llyn Parc, Llyn Dinas and Llyn Crafnant.

The Buachaille, Scotland

Head towards brooding, desolate Rannoch Moor and Glen Coe on the A82. On cool damp mornings, mist hangs about the shoulders of a mighty pyramidical peak, Bauchaille Etive Mor, like a dramatic curtain.

The Somerset Levels

This coastal wetland is famous for its mists, sprawling between the Mendip and Quantock hills. Galstonbury Tor and Burrow Mump make excellent subjects.

Whitby Abbey, North Yorks

Facing out across the North Sea, this mystical abbey and quaint seaside town get their fair share of sea fog through out the year. Small wonder Bram Stoker got his inspiration for Dracula here. You can also see how numerous photographers have been inspired to come here, which normally results in beautiful canvas prints.

Focusing and depth of field; get it right for great canvas prints

We like to help you achieve good photos here at Canvas Prints Online. This is a post in our series of photography tips: Focusing and Depth of Field

Depth of field is the space in front of and behind the plane of best focus, within which objects appear acceptably sharp. Though accurate, this definition tells or example, use it to imply space, to suggest being inside the action, or to emphasize the separation between elements within the picture area.

Varying depth of field

Your chief control over depth of field is the lens aperture: as you set smaller apertures (using f/11 instead of f/8, for example), depth of field increases. This increase is greater the shorter the lens’s focal length, so that the depth of field at f/11 on a 28mm lens is greater than it would be f/11 on a 300mm lens. Depth of field also increases as the subject being focused on moves further away from the camera. The corollary of this that at close focusing distances, depth of filed is very limited.

Using depth of field

An extensive depth of field (resulting from using a small lens aperture, a wide-angle lens, distant focusing, or a combination of these factors) is often used for the following types of subject:

- Landscapes, such as wide angle- general views.
- Architecture, in which the foregrounds to buildings are important features.
- Interiors, including nearby furniture or other objects, and far windows and similar features. As a by-product, smaller apertures tend to reduce lens flare and improve lens performance. A shallow depth of field (resulting from a wide lens aperture, a long focal length lens, focusing close-up, or a combination of these) renders only a small portion of the image sharp, and can often be usefully applied to:
- Portraiture, to help concentrate viewer attention.
- Reducing the distraction from elements that cannot be removed from the lens’s field of view
- Isolating a subject from the distracting visual clutter of tits surroundings

Autofocusing

Two main methods of autofocusong are used. In compact cameras, a beam of inferred light scans the scene when the shutter button is pressed. The nearest and strongest IR reflections are read by a sensor, which calculates the subject distance and sets it on the camera a fraction of a second before the picture has been taken.

The other main method is ‘passive’. Part of the light from the subject is sampled and split up, but only when the lens is in focus do the parts of the image coincide (or are said to be ‘in phase’). The crucial property of this system is what the phase differences vary, depending on whether the lens Is focused in front of behind the [lane of best focus. Autofocus sensors analyse the pattern and can tell the lens in which direction to move in order to achieve best focus.

Though sophisticated, autofocus systems can be fooled. Beware of the following circumstances:

- The key autofocus sensor is in the centre of the viewfinder image, so any off centre subjects may not be correctly focused. Aim the focusing area at your subject, ‘hold’ the focus with a light pressure on the shutter release button, and then return the viewfinder to the original view.
- When photographing through glass, reflections for the glass may confuse the IR sensor.
- Photographing beyond objects that are close to the lens, through a bush or between the gaps in a fence for instance, can confuse the autofocus system.
- Moving close-up subjects may be best kept in focus by setting a distance manually and then adjusting your position backward and forward in order to maintain focus,
- With very fast moving subjects it may better to focus on a set distance and then wait for the subject to reach that point before shooting.

Hopefully this provides you with some good advice to get the best out of your images on canvas.

Keep checking back to this blog for further tips on photography and image preparation.

Depth of field is important in photography

Photography Tip’s and tutorials from Canvas Prints Online

Here at Canvas Prints Online we appreciate good photography. Over the coming weeks in weekly instalments we will be offering insights and tip’s to help you get the best from your photography. Please feel free to leave any comments and feedback, we love to hear from you.

Photography 1: Key Camera Controls

It is possible to measure you progress in Photography by you attitude to camera controls. At first they may seem like a burden - an obstacle rather than an advantage - but as your command over them improves, they turn into invaluable tools, a power helping your creative processes. Of all the camera controls, the shutter speed setting is the most distinctivley photographic.

Shutter Settings - Exposure time

The shutters primary function is to set the exposure time. While it’s open, the photographic exposure is created by a summing up of all the light that falls on the sensor or put another way; Shutter speed is one of several methods used to control the amount of light recorded by the camera’s digital sensor or film. It is also used to manipulate the visual effects of the final image beyond its luminosity. The resulting record is not just of the light falling, but also the spatial realtionship with the sensor. This means that the sensor records all changes in position of the subject or of the camera itself, however minute they may be: in short the sensor records both light intensity and movement.

With a short exposure time, there is less chance for movement to travel a significant distance on the sensor. This means that there’s less chance for movement to travel a significant distance on the sensor, therefore blur from any moevement cannot easily be seen: the image looks sharp. If we hold the shutter open for longer, movement in both the subject and in the camera can draw a blur that’s large enough to be seen. Given that a blur only about a tenth of a millimeter long, from a distance of about 8 inches, the eye will assess the image as being unsharp.

Short Exposures

In order to obtain the sharpest picture you would therefore assume that it would be best to use the shortest exposure time, this can , in fact, have a negative effect on your image. A brief exposure may require a large aperture, or you may nee to use a high ISO setting or sometimes both.

These compensations may undermine your attempts to capture a sharp image: the large aperture reduces depth of field, calling for more precise focusing, and may also reduce image quality. A high ISO setting may increase noise (this lowers the shaprness of detail, not to mention lowering the quality of colours.)

Consequently, you may find that if you unhackle yourself from the tyranny of the brief exposure time and it’s adherence to sharpness, your pictures improve. Allow yourself a longer exposure to work with blur or allow slight movement of your image. Modern cameras which feature image stabilisation provide an excellent approach to movement. Using a tripod and keeping a steady hand will also help with your photos.

Next week: Depth of field.
